Art Fair Follow-up and New Work! 09/29/2008

Hey Hey Everyone! Wanted to follow-up and let everyone know how much fun we had at the Fountain Square Arts Fair this last weekend. It was a great crowd and we got to meet and talk to a lot of great people! Thanks to everyone that came by the booth! It was awesome to meet and greet everyone, as well as see some old friends too! The Masterpiece in a day competition was really cool to watch throughout the day, and I must say that Steve gave it a great go as well! Here are some pictures of our booth.

I did manage to finally finish the drawing I have been working on! Here is a picture of "Roman Leftovers" for you to see. I will also be posting it in the gallery section. What is really becoming fun for me - something that used to really freak me out -  is the reaction from people about the diversity of my work.  My favourite quote from this weekend was, "Oh my! That is your work too!? But it's so different! Where does it all come from?" In which I just had to respond with a wink, "Lady, you have no idea, and I think it's better you don't know."

As you can see with this drawing...I worked pretty TIGHT here. When all along I have been talking about staying LOOSE. Well let me explain...my reasoning here was that maybe if I put down the brush and go back to tight, anal, freakish, mind bending, cramp your hand drawing...you know the kind that makes you squint and jerk your head for about an hour after working on it?...that I would get it out of my system and go back to relishing being loose and crazy with the brush. I don't know if it is going to work or not...but from the painting that I have been doing post this drawing, I would say that it didn't hurt, as I have a big desire to work so loose that I nearly throw the brush at the canvas. Oh wait, maybe that is just frustration...oh hell, I get the two confused these days. But never-the-less...here it is. It is a watercolour wash with a graphite drawing over the top. Let me know what you think!

I hope everyone had a great weekend as well!

Don't forget to mark your calendars for Riley Days in Downtown Greenfield THIS weekend (Oct. 2-5) in which I'll be hanging out a lot at the studio or around the Creative Arts building. And also...you know it! 2nd FRIDAY is coming up on October 10th.

      Hello everyone!

That's right! I have been asked to be on a local radio station to promote our next 2nd Friday Event!

I will be on the Leland Franklin show to discuss details of the historic building that houses the Artists Upstairs studios as well as the gallery and all other events for the September 12th 2nd Friday Event. I'm really excited, as it turns out, Leland and I go back a lot of years and I think it will really be a hoot! I will have to be up bright and early...and for those of you that know me well...that is a real challenge for me...but I am looking forward to it!

So, mark your calendars! I will be on WHBU Newstalk 1240 AM on September 11th at 7:00 AM so tune-in! For those of you outside of the listening area...have no fear. I have gotten permissiion for them to record the show, and I will edit it and put it on the blog for you all to hear!

In other news, I'm back and running on all cylinders from vacation. I am busy with my art students, and trying to get back to my easels to fit in my own work! I am currently working on three different paintings that are all at different stages; a drawing that is near completion in which I hope to post here, and display at the next 2nd Friday...busy, busy, busy!

Keep your e-mails and comments coming...I love 'em!

Be sure to keep an eye on the website. I have a new journal post and some new photography to see, and soon I will get some new poetry up to share.

      Until next time...ROCK ON everybody!

I am 98% Artist (110% at heart - but bad at math) and 2% human being. I keep working hard in the hopes that one day my art story will be like the great artist fairytale. You know the one - the one about how the poor, struggling artist rocking on the edge of insanity is toiling away in her studio day after day, when one day a handsome person comes to see her work, and decides that she should be rescued. From that day on they pay her to paint, pimp out her work and buy her beer. Everyone lives happily ever after.
        That...would be cool.
Until then...I'll just keep trying to put square pegs in round holes.
