I wanted to share with everyone a glimpse into my new painting, “Alienation,” which is a 5’x8’ (6o"x96") canvas. I have received several e-mails asking about this work so I am sharing with you all the video. I would like to soon post a good photo of the finished painting, as it is a little bit difficult in the video to take in the whole thing; but I have to admit I’m struggling with that a little bit. See…I thought I was so clever in building a large canvas support on one of my studio walls for me to freely work on a large canvas…however, I didn’t anticipate not being able to get back far enough from her to get a feasible photograph! …sigh…oh well.
I have some options they will just take some effort and some moving around, setting up the proper lights and getting back far enough to accomplish the task. All this will have to take place out of studio. When I get that done…I will certainly put the painting into my current works for you to spend some time with. In the mean time…do enjoy a trip through the painting all up close and personal like. I meant for the video to take you into the negative and positive spaces of the painting so that you can explore the various layers. The painting is mixed media consisting of acrylic, liquid graphite, charcoal, spray enamel, graphite, and oil. Of course the only way to truly enjoy any painting is in person, so I will be revealing “Alienation” at the next 2nd Friday Open Studio Event (September 10.) So sit back and enjoy the video. This painting and I have become pretty good friends as we have spent a lot of time together and asked each other a lot of meaningful questions. The most profound question yet to be answered is -  'to truly be okay with being alone with yourself, do you have to first like yourself?' That one I have not yet answered...

hey Cagney..looks like you have tackled a Monster project! I can see where one would get very 'close' to a work so huge..my oh my...I can't imagine! It is looking great and I bet the textural quality is much more involved in real life! My best to you as you complete it! Bravo!!!

Wow, Cagney, a very powerful piece (sniff, sniff). The music you selected was a perfect accompaniment. This together made me think of all that is going on in the world today. Yes, it's sad, but it also made me know how fortunate I am to have what I have. I appreciate that effect the work had on me.
