CAGNEY KING - ARTIST BIO
Cagney King was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. King's southern roots mix bravely with an urban undertone to create her abstract portraiture. Her work exaggerates emotion to push forth layer upon layer of texture. King took formal art training at Ball State University – Muncie, IN. – while working to obtain her Bachelors in Telecommunications. After graduating, King studied informally at Herron School of Art/IUPUI – Indianapolis, IN. – and continues to study independently through self-exploration learning new techniques and execution. King works and experiments endlessly to find the perfect mix of mediums and layered culminations to create her art which primarily focuses on mixed media abstract portraiture. King's works have been profiled in American Art Collector, NY 2017; Artist Portfolio Issue 17; and Studio Visit Magazine Volumes 25 and 35. King was one of 48 artists chosen from an International juried pool to be featured in Bangstyle, a book published on the West Coast in 2012; featuring working contemporary, urban and street artists in the US and Europe. Her works are in the permanent collections of Museums, private and corporate collectors located in Indianapolis, Georgia, Arkansas, Florida, New York and Michigan to name a few. King's past and present representation includes Miami, New York, and Indianapolis galleries. |
“I encourage EVERYONE to see the world as a painting! Look for colour, not criticism. Look for shapes and tone, not race. Look for beauty, not cynical distress. See the light out of all the dark. And above all, leave this place better than you found it.” -Cagney King
